AI Devop Tool
Resume and cover letter help, plus a straight-talk guide to using AI tools the right way — for job hunting and beyond.
Resume basics
Lead with results, not duties
"Managed a supply team" says less than "Cut equipment turnaround time by 30% managing a 12-person supply team." Numbers make a resume memorable.
Translate military or technical experience into civilian terms
A hiring manager outside your field won't know what an MOS code or internal team name means. Describe what you actually did in plain language.
Keep it to one page if you have under 10 years of experience
Cut ruthlessly. Every line should earn its place by showing impact, not just presence.
Cover letter basics
Open with why this job, not who you are
Skip "I am writing to apply for..." — start with a specific reason you want this role at this company.
Mirror the job posting's language
If the posting says "cross-functional collaboration," use that phrase if it genuinely applies to you. Many applicant tracking systems scan for it.
End with a specific next step
"I'd welcome the chance to talk about how I can contribute to [team]" reads stronger than a generic sign-off.
Using AI tools the right way
Use AI to draft, not to decide
AI tools are strong at getting a rough draft on the page fast. They're weak at knowing what's actually true about your experience — you still have to fact-check and personalize everything it writes.
Never let AI invent your accomplishments
If you paste a job posting and ask an AI tool to "write my resume for this job," it may generate skills or experience you don't actually have. Only include what's real and verifiable.
Give AI tools specific instructions, not vague ones
"Make this better" gets a generic answer. "Rewrite this bullet point to lead with the outcome, in under 20 words" gets something you can actually use.
- Read everything an AI tool writes for you before using it — never copy-paste blind
- Keep your original resume as the source of truth; use AI to polish wording, not invent facts
- Ask AI to explain its reasoning if a suggestion seems off — it can be wrong confidently
- Use AI for practice interview questions, then answer them yourself before checking its sample answers
